This weeks match reports.
First up, on the early kick off was the Hawks.
Ely Valley Hawks vs Trebanog
An early start for an eagerly awaited local derby where bragging rights were at stake.
Trebanog started the first game well and were on top for a lot of the first half grabbing a good goal with only Gabe to thank for the score only being one nil at half time. A brief short sharp chat to put things right at half time saw the hawks come out flying in the second half. A totally dominant performance in the second half saw trebanog retreating and unable to play the long ball forward to their centre forward. Cai grabbed hold of the game in midfield whilst Cavan thwarted any attempts they tried to make to break forward. Caden added his cool presence and jay added the grit and steal to midfield that trebanog didn’t like. Kian and josh proved too cool under pressure and added a great threat to our attacks. Eventually the inevitable happened and after great work from Charlie, mason got in and smashed home the equaliser! 1-1. The hawks then stamped their authority and quickly made it 2-1 after another great finish from mason. Trebanog tried to push forward but in the end the Hawks were just too strong and mason completed his hat trick with the game finishing 3-1.
The second game followed the first with trebanog taking an early lead. Ely valley soon got into gear and made it 1-1 with a top bin belter from mason. That quickly became 2-1 with a lucky tap in through the keepers legs from mason again! 2-1.By now the defence of Kalen and George had got into the rythym of the game and Gabe is a great platform from the back. Kyla had a job to do and was outstanding in doing it nullifying the her opposition every time. Riley ran his legs off in the right wing and showed glimpses of pure class today. Dylan and macey caused havoc in the trebanog defence and it paid off when Dylan slotted home a fantastic finish to make it 3-1. Trebanog fought hard and pinched a goal back to make it 3-2 with a nail biting end to come. In the end though Ely valley came through again with Charlie smashing the ball into the net so hard the keeper jumped out of the way of the ball!!
A special mention today to gabe who was outstanding, josh Evans covered every blade of fake grass in the pitch and also Kian and cai who played through injuries to get is the deserved victories.
Well done to mason, Riley and josh in their POTM performances.
Ely Valley Osprey’s v Ferndale
The Ospreys travelled up the valley to face Ferndale on Darren Park, with massive smiles on their faces they tested out new combinations and positions and they all coped with the challenge really well. They showed great patience and determination against a big side.
Although every single player worked their socks off today, there are a few that deserve a little extra recognition.
Rocco - for the best headed goal I’ve seen in junior/senior football.
Ewan who scored his best goal for the club with a 15 yard top bins shot. He also bagged 7 goals today!
Esme - scored her first goal for the club with a run from the back.
Well Done Ospreys!
Ely Valley Falcons v Treherbert
Today saw out falcons come up against a very strong Treherbet team. Despite the evident size difference, the falcons played with their usual spirit, closing down at every opportunity and never taking a backward step. The 1st game saw the falcons spending the majority of it defending and goals either side of half time gave Treherbet the lead. That seemed to give them confidence and they pushed on, which left them open to the counter attack with nearly resulted in Sonny grabbing a few late goals which would of been deserved. Unfortunately it wasnt meant to be, and a few late goals from Treherbet ended the match 6 -0.
The 2nd game followed the same path, with Treherbet on the front foot and the falcons defending for the majority of the game. Ellis and Calan were constant threats on the break and Lois was solid in the middle. Cobie was his usual rock at the heart of the defence also. The Treherbet keeper pulled off some good saves and the woodwork saved them on occasions, but the result mirrored the 1st game with Treherbet coming out 6 nil victors.
Well done Falcons, the Trehebet coach was full of praise for how you coped with the older team, and gave them far tougher games than many they have had this season.
Well done, onto next week now 👍👍
Last but not least our little Kestrels
Ely valley Kestrels v Porth & Ton & Gelli
Ely valley fluo
Ely valley fluo’s played some great stuff today all players on top of their game and oozing with confidence!
These players playing 5 games today and winning every single one and only conceding one goal!
We started the first match on fire with a convincing win with goals coming from some superb team play.
The second game against a rugged ton and gelli team was an under 6 masterclass. Goals from Rueben, Noah and Harry secured a comfortable victory.
The third game saw Rhys smash home his first goal for Ely valley and earn is a 1-0 victory.
The fourth game saw Ava get on the scoresheet with a clever lob over three players to net a cracking goal. Rueben popped up with just your five goals in this game where honestly I lost count if the score.
The fifth game was a tight affair against a string Porth team but as per normal mr dependable Harry Evans struck a classic strike to earn us a 1 nil win.
Ava, Noah, Rhys, Harry and Rueben can hold their heads high today as they were top class in every game. An absolute pleasure to coach.
Ely valley kestrels:
A good start with Alfie pressing early winning the ball upfront to create chances for Thomas and Ethan and getting an early lead, Fletcher tackling hard in midfield and passing well up the line creating more chances, Ben didn’t have much to do in defence so he came into midfield where he got stuck in and had chances to score but Thomas poked the ball over the line denying his goal 🙈
The second game started where they left off from the first game Ethan pulling the strings in midfield controlling the game passing creating goals for Alfie and Thomas.
The third game was all ely valley again with some crunching tackles from Ethan fletcher and Alfie and good passing creating our goals. Our constant pressure was brilliant not allowing the opposition any time on the ball with Thomas and Alfie making space and good runs to get on the score sheet.
The last game we started quiet but Fletcher defended well letting us get into the game with Ben getting his first goal for Ely valley which was very well deserved as he worked very hard all afternoon.
A very good afternoon from the kestrels with Fletcher, Ben, Ethan, Alfie and Thomas all getting on the score sheet and playing well in any position they were asked to play and not conceding a single goal.
Ely valley greys
First game against a young Porth team. A cracking goal from a corner where Nate played a great ball in for Tylo to finish with a first time effort.
Constant pressure and tackling by Callen and Lyle up front allowed Nate and Tylo to control the game. With Nate getting that deserved second goal. Dylan marshalled the defence with his usual control and confidence starting the attacks.
Second game against Porth’s strongest team resulted in a 0-0 draw although Ely valley edged the play.
Some fantastic passing and runs by
Dylan made some more crucial tackles to keep the clean sheet and Nate and Tylo came so close to scoring what would have been a deserved winner.
The third game will be well remembered by Callen Parker who opened his Ely valley account with a lovely close range finish.
Goals from Dylan and Tylo completed another convincing win.
The forth game and first against Ton & Gelli. Lyle scored two goals in this game which meant everyone in the team scored.
The final game against another Ton team. Plenty of positional changes in this one to give new opportunities and challenges to the players but in typical Ely valley fashion everyone took it all on board and goals from Tylo and Nate gave the team another win.
5 games, 4 wins and a draw. All players on the scoresheet and only one goal conceded and as Callen said ‘we had to be nice and give them one goal’.
Well done Kestrels still unbeaten 👍🏼💚⚽️
Well Done Ely Valley 😊
