Match Report - Sunday 20th January

20 Jan 2019 by Stacey Thomas

This weeks match report, happy reading.

First up on the early slot were our eagles.

Ely Valley Eagles v Ferndale

Game 1
Eagles 4 Ferndale 3
Game 2
Eagles 9 Ferndale 0

On a morning made for football with weather cold but dry the Eagles started off well scoring early to set the pace for the rest of the game.
The Eagles showcasing some new signings on their debuts namely Freya and Ava who looked comfortable during their first caps 😀
Typically we fell a sleep but unusually it was in the mid part of the game which saw us lose the lead and trailing 3-2 until the last parts of the match. Step up Joel & Xavier! Both with goals at the dying stages for us to win 4-3 👏👏👏👏
The second match was a goal fest, Oliver with a clean sheet and the centre forwards/strikers banging goals in for fun 🥳🥳🥳
Oliver - looked confident today and was throwing his body into the attacking players causing fear!
Dawson - Mr steady and reliable at the back, you know what you get there!
Jay - had some timely tackles in defence, can see him desiring to be further forward and he was a real nuisance in midfield!
Star - much like Dawson, she’s strong in defence and made some clinical challenges!
Freya - on debut did not look phased, mixed her position from the back to midfield and did well!
Ava - on debut to, saw some good tackles and some good passing, again looked at ease!
Alfie - like a whippet around the midfield, got back his mojo today with 2 lovely goals!!
Xavier - mr consistent in the middle of the field, nice ability to choose between shooting and passing, another good performance topped of with a hat trick the first and a cheeky one in the 2nd.
Austin - amazing work rate, worked his socks off and nearly scored a super goal only for the keeper to save!
Joel - this guy is a real work horse, physically dominant over the Ferndale side, he can’t stop scoring with 3 again today.
Cian - My man of the match today, was absolutely everywhere today. Looked to pass as well as shoot, 4 well taken goals, well done!!

Falcons v Treorchy

First Game,
The Falcons entered 2019 with a string of difficult games and today was no exception against Treorchy. On a very muddy proper Sunday league grass roots field the Falcons came out of the traps at 100mph, applying pressure and standing off when needed. In all honesty the entire game was spent in Treorchy”s half with only a couple of sporadic counter attacks causing concern to The Falcons. the game finished 6-1 to the Falcons with goals from Callum, Max, Calan, Sonny 2 and Logan.
Due to our dominance we took the opportunity to mix the positions up today, allowing some of the team a little more freedom than normal. Big shout out to Sonny for his dream pass to Logan, giving him  a tap in. Sonny could have had his hat trick but no it's all about the team, well done little man!!

Second Game,
wow what a game… Treorchy came out and blitzed the Falcons going 4-0 up in the first 10 minutes, but did the Falcons heads go down NO IT DID NOT. After sustaining unrelenting pressure, sometimes you just have to step up to the plate, and Ieuan did that not once but twice with two identical 30 yard shots, both goals screaming into the bottom left corner!! which spurred on the Falcons who turned the game around applying the pressure now.
The Coach at half time telling the Falcons “There is no way we should be losing this” resulted in the Falcons kicking in again, with Harry scoring after a sublime overhead pass by Oscar, and one for Ellis blasting it into bottom right corner. 4:4 5 minutes on the clock, a rush of blood to the coaches head, and white line fever kicks in!! The Coach rolls the dice goes all in, changing the formation and sends Finley Bobbins upfront leaving our back exposed!! Big tactical error from the Coach resulted in us conceding 3 goas in the final 5 minutes!!!
Final Score Falcons 4: 7 Treorchy

Ospreys v Llwynypia

The Ospreys made this game the best game of their season so far!
Possession and calmness and ruthlessness all in one game. Exactly what we’ve been threatening to do.

Onto game two and the Ospreys didn’t give up. Coming from behind twice these guys never know when they are beaten, to run away with it shows character in abundance.

2 goals from set piece corners and a volley from Mingsy were gravy.

Over the past 2 weeks the Ospreys played 4 games, they have scored over 50 goals and only conceded 6.

Well done Ospreys 👏🏼

Hawks v Treherbert

On a cold damp morning up in treherbert the hawks turned up in good energy and spirits ready for the game.

The first game started well with the hawks putting their foot down and dominating proceedings.

The hawks finally made the break through after a great pass from mason allowed chrkie to smash home from close range.

The second half started much the same with Kian causing havoc and jay and Cavan running the midfield with no problems.

Kalen and caden stood firm at the back and gabe did everything asked of him with his usual top class standards.

Josh once again broke through the midfield lines with another great run only to be fouled.

Charlie quickly laid the ball to Cavan who smashed home a 20 yard cracker! Then some dodgy refereeing pursued which dean Evans quickly put and end to where the referee tried to give treherbert a goal for no apparent reason 🤣.

Final score hawks 2-0.

The second game saw the hawks go a goal down but quickly pick their heads back up and a great run from Riley saw Kian tap home.

Mason then quickly added a belting second before macey did the fox in the box thing and tapped it home to make it 3-1 to Ely valley.

Treherbert then found some players from somewhere 🤷‍♂🤷‍♂🤷‍♂ that came in to play the second half of the second game.

Aaron and Kyla held the defence up well until they luckily pinched a goal back.

The momentum was with them then and two quick goals saw treherbert win the second game 4-3.

Very proud of the hawks today but we all agreed we can definitely do better!

Onwards and upwards.
Well done today on POTM for Macey and Kian 👍🏼

Kestrels v Tonyrefail U7’s

The Ely Valley kestrels entertained Tonyrefail under 7’s today in a great local derby between a lot of school friends.

Pitch One Leigh & Darren’s Team

In the first game Ely valley grabbed the game by the scruff of the neck and took control from the start with some clever goals from Harry, Noah and Ethan earning is a 3-0 win.

The second game saw Ava run riot up front and Rhys and Ben dominate the defence which allowed Rueben to do his thing also Harry to grab another goal which saw Ely valley running out 4-0 victors.

The third game saw a tougher test but as we have become used to the kestrels overcame this test with Ethan and Rhys providing 100% physicality to match the older opposition. Harry and Rueben were again allowed to do their thing and score goals between them. Ava pressurised the Tonyrefail defence whilst Noah and Ben made some superb tackles. This game finishing 3-1 to the kestrels.

The final game was Mings time to shine, bagging a thoroughly deserved hat trick in a comfortable 3-1 victory for the kestrels. Some gray build up play from Ethan and Harry in this game allowing Noah to bag these goals.

Great work today from Rhys at the back who tackled his heart out. Ben made some great interceptions and passed out well from the back. Rueben made some great runs forward and got many goals from it. Ethan controlled every game for us and bosses the midfield. Harry ran his socks off through illness and still managed to bag himself some goals. Ava pressed and pressed all day and held the ball up well in attack.
Noah played his part from the wings and up front causing chaos wherever he went.
For playing a team a year older I felt we more than held our own today and played some lovely passing free flowing football 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼

Pitch 2 James & Andrew’s Team

Two players in our team today were playing boys who were two school years above them, this didn’t matter, the football was superb!

The first game against Tonyrefail yellow was a bit of an awakening and it took a while for the players to adapt to the bigger players.
Our kestrels kept doing what they have been doing all season by passing and moving with Tylo grabbing a fantastic goal in a 4-1 defeat. Despite a defeat the team were spirt was not dampened and their energy was amazing.

The second game against the same Tonyrefail team resulted in a 1-0 loss but the result didn’t reflect the game. Plenty of chances created through some quality football and our players stepped up to the physical challenge. We were unlucky here not to equalise, or secure a win!

The third game against Tonyrefail Blue team gave our team their first win of the day with goals from Dylan, Alfie and Jonny Mitchell.
A much better defensive performance by Fletcher and Callen, a dominant midfield of Nate, Dylan and Tylo provided the ammunition for Alfie and Thomas to exhaust the Ton players. A great 4-0 win.

The final game against the second Ton team ended in a 2-1 victory. With the winning goal by Jonny which capped off another dominant display.

A special shout out to Tylo who not only played superbly throughout, but was very sporting in making sure any players who were hurt were ok, and congratulating players on good performance.

All in all, an amazing performance, everyone should be proud of themselves.

Well Done to all age groups today 👏🏼💚
