Match Report Sunday 17th February

17 Feb 2019 by Stacey Thomas

a round up of today’s matches.

First up

Ely Valley Eagles v T & Gelli Greens

With a number drop outs just before kick off the mighty Eagles had to compose and regroup giving some players the opportunity to play in different positions.

In typical fashion we started slow and despite an amazing performance by Xavier in goal we we a few goals down 😩
Slowly but surely we started to get a foothold in the game and with Dawson & Star marshalling the defence we were able to get the ball forward to the midfield to Joel who slotted 2 fine goals which left us 2-5 down at the half way point.
The second half saw Freya bravely volunteer for the goalie slot and she pulled off a number of impressive stops. This released Xavier in the field and he covered the whole pitch before sending in a rocket from his own half.
The midfield working more efficiently saw a cool brace from Cian, a cheeky goal for Austin also. Alfie MAC was unlucky not to be on the score sheet with some desperate tackles preventing his shots.
In the dying stages of the game Ton & Gelli pushed forward but kayden & Mason put in some fine tackles to hold them out!
Final score 10-9 to the Eagles 🦅 🦅🦅🦅

Man of the match Joel with 5 goals today! Also presented with the match ball following his hat trick in the final quarter!!

Ely Valley Ospreys v Tonyrefail

Game started at 9am. All finished and off the pitch 10.45am. Tonyrefail encroached on our playing time again 👍🏼

Ely valley Hawks V Porth Claret

Two very hard games for our hawks today away to porth claret.

The first game started really slow for the hawks finding themselves 2-0 down after 5 minutes. Kalen, caden and George then got hold of the porth attack and started to play out from the back to start some attacks. We then showed good character and dug deep with josh, cai and Kian getting to grips with the midfield. After the hard work of Kian and the tenacity in midfield of josh it enabled cai to play some lovely through balls to Charlie and mason, with mason grabbbng a goal back making it 2-1. Porth then scored within seconds of the kick off making it 3-1. In another crazy turn mason then smashed in another making it 3-2 at half time. The second half started and before we know it porth smashed in two quick fire goals before extending those lead even further later in the game. If it wasn’t for some great saves from gabe this could have finished double figures. Final score porth 7-2 hawks.

The second game saw the hawks come back out fighting as always and play some nice stuff. Kyla strengthened us at the back and Dylan and macey offered a threat up front that caused the porth defence many problems. This game was a lot closer than the first and showed great guys character and determination from the hawks. Unfortunately all the hard work was undone at the end as porth snatched a last gasp winner to take the game 1-0.

Two tough games for the hawks but a 11 a side friendly to look forward to on Tuesday night 😀😀😀

Well down to gabe and Kyla on their POTM awards

Ely Valley Falcons v Cambrian

The Falcons visited King George's Field today facing off against Cam and Clydach vale

First Game,
falcons started off slower this week, allowing Cam to have lots of the ball… why, we have absolutely no idea. Once waking up The Falcons started playing, typically building from the back finding their way up the wings. Probably as they did they just couldn't find a way in through Cams defence, they can't had a coyote of shots but nothing to worry the keeper. Second half can with a strong of tactical changes pushing our Left back Logz Cartwright up into midfielder with the command make some penetrating runs, and that he did, passing 1,2,3,4 players free on goal, yes, yes, yes shoot!!! Only for the keeper to get his fingertips to it. Another Tactical change Maximus right wing, instant impact lovely ball to max, passes the last defender, Shoot, shoot, slightly wide of the post… Callum on as striker, lovely though ball again, shoot, shoot, keeper saves again!
Game finished.
Falcons 0: 0 Cam

Second Game,
All new team for the Falcons… again stalemate nothing going past either side both defences holding strong. Falcons playing done very nice football, Teal though on goal, shoot, shoot, keeper saves, another marauding run Teal through again, shoot, shoot, defence tackles… Falcons on the back foot 30 yards from their own goal, Ieaun steps up to clear it, smashes the ball 50yards into the air, ball starts going backwards towards our own goal, oh no, it's not, can't be, is it, yes it is, lobs our own keeper…. Amazing own goal from our 6ft right back, no call of “that's four this week” though… head up son it happens! Falcons Fought back though pressing, passing doing everything we should be doing, but we just could not break the line. Tactical changes Elis upfront go boy go, caused absolute havoc with Cam’s defence, chances coming his way only to be blocked in last gasp tackles… only way to stop the lad was to hack him down, and that they did, having a Cam player sent off in the process. Didn't stop Elis though, but he still could not find that goal!
Game finished
Falcons 0: 3 Cam

Ely Valley Kestrels v Tonyrefail u7s

First game we started well with some nice passes from Jonny and Ethan setting up a good few chances for Alfie and Tylo, but the ball just couldn’t find the back of the net. Then tonyrefail caught us on the break scoring the only goal of the game.

In the second game Ethan and tylo controlled the game from midfield setting up Jonny and Alfie for their goals for Us to win comfortably.

In the third game Alfie scores early then we had a lot of chances to kill the game off but didn’t capitalise and Tonyrefail scored a late equaliser which wasn’t deserved.

Callen was excellent in defence today. Great starting positions made making his tackles that much easier to make. Keep this up!!

Noah played some lovely football today in midfield and was unlucky not to score today. Second two games he got stuck in as well with some great tenacity in his tackles.

Reuben was his usual dynamic self today and also unlucky not to score his custom goal. Always looking to bring others into the game.

Dylan scored two lovely goals in the first game and was unlucky not to add more goals in other games. Covered nearly every inch of the pitch.

Mason earned a well deserved player of the match trophy today. Made some lovely tackles, runs with the ball and looked composed with his control of the ball and passing.

Rhys:another solid performance.great distribution starting off our attacks
Fletcher:some solid tackling.done well when asked to play in midfield.
Nate:ran his socks off.scored a goal in the first game, which we won 1-0
Lyle:lots of energy from our centre forward.unlucky not to score today.
Harry:a great display today.covered ever blade of fake grass.scored 2 goals.

Good day of football again from the young kestrels who battled with a team a year older.

Well Done Everyone 👏🏼 💚⚽️
