First up, sharing the early slot with the Hawks was the Falcons.
Falcons v Llwynypia
Falcons faced off against Llwynypia today.
Both games were very physical, and become more and more physical as the games went on and they realised we were up for the task. Not once did our young Falcons shy away from very good and physical Llwynypia, which can only be a testament to our character. Our commitment was 💯% as always, we were strong but fair, and we can't ask for anymore then that.
Doesn't matter who we play we try to play the game as it's meant to be played, which forced Llwynypia into a kick it long from the GK tactic.
Heroics from our GK’s Ben, Cobie, and Kailem throwing their bodies on the line, against some lads that were nearly two years older cannot be understated, and the lads kept us in the game, giving our outfield players opportunities. Opportunities, how many can we create, a mint load that's how many, threatening their GK time and time again, but we couldn't put it in the goal enough times!
Falcons lost both games 1:3, and 0:3 respectively with our goal coming from Calan, but what could have been. We cannot praise this team enough, very very proud coaches and parents here! No bigger accolade can be given than, parents of the opposition pulling over our coach, exclaiming that they couldn't believe we were ALL first years, to the point where they started cheering us on, willing us to score.
Bravo Falcons, Bravo!
Ely Valley Hawks v Ferndale
Match report 📚
It’s just like watching Brazil............
The first half today was the best half of football I can remember us playing. Passing, moving and finishing with deadly effect!!
Zack kept goal well and made some crucial saves at important times!
George and Kalen stood firm and made important interceptions rather than tackles which showed our dominance! George passes out from the back well and Kalen made multiple interceptions that earned him the POTM award.
Jay, cai and josh were unplayable today in the first half. Two touch football at its best moving the ball quickly and effectively. Jay smashed everything in sight then played simple balls that kept us possession. Josh jinked his way through the midfield adding his touch of class and cai powered is from the middle adding his power and presence to the midfield that complimented each other superbly.
Dylan, mason and Charlie were devastating upfront running the show from ten front line. Dylan worked his socks off proving deadly upfront but then tackling everything when required. Charlie did what was asked today, 2 touch at its best with awesome finishing to top it off!! Mason was unplayable today taking the ball, playing 1-2’s then nearly breaking the net!! Top class forward display.
Aaron and macey came in second game and didn’t let us down. Aaron tackles his heart out making tackles then playing the ball forward at every opportunity. Macey chased the defenders down and helped on the counter attack which set us off and made sure we got forward quickly and effectively on attack.
Probably the best 20 mins of under 11 football I’ve seen today in the first half which absolutely blew away a good team. We have now set a standard we have to stick to hawksters.
Well done to Kalen and Josh on their POTM awards.
Ely Valley Kestrels headed to Ton Pentre for a round robin hosted by Ton & Gelli.
Today’s match report 📚
Ely valley Team 1
Nate - a cool and comfortable game as part of the back two with Dylan. Some lovely passing, scored in all three games with an absolute worldy against Tonyrefail.
Thomas - ran and chased everything. Playing with a smile on his face as always and scored some lovely goals today. Got the all important first goal against Tonyrefail.
Dylan - alongside Nate controlled everything at the back. Growing in confidence with every game and his discipline meant we were never left exposed at the back. Two goals in the second game set us on our way.
Callen - was his usual live wire self today. Some great pressing, tackling and not sure how he didn’t get on the score sheet. Was the first time playing in the new system and slotted in lovely.
Alfie - the fire is back. Hatrick in the first game and constant running and pressing. Smiling again non-stop. The new system seems to be suiting him great.
Ely valley kestrels team 3
Rhys played well in a 2 man defence getting stuck into tackles winning the ball back and making some nice passes setting us on the attack, he also adapted well to the throw ins throwing long finding a team mate.
Mason played along side Rhys winning the ball and carrying out of defence passing to his teammates, and he popped up with a brilliant strike.
Fletcher played well when he came on making some good tackles and nice passes from defence and was unlucky not to get on the score sheet.
Tylo linked up very well with Reuben in midfield setting up many of Reubens goals and making some crunching tackles, he also scored and impressive 6 goals.
Reuben was excellent in midfield with tylo, running all over the pitch not giving the opposition time on the ball and making some crunching tackles to set him self many goals( lost count in the end)
Brilliant performance from our kestrels in tough conditions winning every game very comfortable. Well done all.
AND WE ALL BEAT TONYREFAIL GET INNN!
Ely Valley Team 2
Quality performances today from the team including a performance where to the coaches amazement, we went 3-0 down with 5 minutes left to play and managed to win the game 5-3. Unbelievable.
The squad never ever knows when it’s beaten!
Harry - started off quiet but then fired into action smashing goals in left right and centre and dominating most games! Pivotal in the comeback game and a stand out performer!
Ben - solid as a rock today at the back and very nearly snatched a goal against Tonyrefail! Won every tackle and fancied a venture upfront!
Ava - ran her fluo socks off today making tackles all over the pitch and sliding some lovely through balls into the attackers which ended up costing me a unicorn teddy in Asda!!!
Noah - delicate left foot that finds his target 9 times out of 10. Very unlucky not to score today but his performance more than made up for that! First class quality......
Ethan - THE MACHINE ... doesn’t miss a tackle and reads the game like a book! Master of the new position and a definite potential future kestrel captain in the making!
Overall another impressive performance from all three kestrel teams. We’ve come away undefeated yet again and are now (as per the Ospreys)
The Kings (and queen 👸) of the Rhondda 👏🏼
Just a quick note to all the Kestrels in Cwmlai Primary school...... go to school tomorrow and be loud and proud!
